Caring for your jewellery for a lifetime
By keeping your jewellery in good condition you are ensuring it will retain its lustre and appeal in the future.
We recommend removing jewellery before showering, swimming, cleaning, gardening, playing sports, sleeping or handling harmful chemicals. Chemicals found in everyday substances like hairspray, lotions, cosmetics, or chlorine in swimming pools can permanently corrode the alloys in gold jewellery and damage gemstones.
It is always best to remove your jewellery at night before going to sleep, and placing your jewellery back on after you have got ready.
Storing your jewellery
We recommend storing each piece of jewellery separately to prevent them from scratching or denting each other. The box the item came in, or another jewellery box with individual compartments can make a good place to keep it. Avoid throwing jewellery into a drawer or on top of a chest of drawers, as this can lead to scratches on the metal and gemstones.
Cleaning your jewellery
Your jewellery can be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and washing up liquid. The small bristles of the toothbrush will help remove dirt that can accumulate on and under the gemstones. You could use a lukewarm moist cloth over the metal. Be sure to stop the sink’s drain to avoid accidents.
Every few years, you may want your rings professionally polished and cleaned. We offer a professional polishing and cleaning service. Please contact us for more information.
Diamonds, sapphires, rubies and aquamarines can all be cleaned in the same way with a soft toothbrush and washing up liquid.
We recommend taking great care with emeralds. Emeralds are prone to drying out which can cause the gemstone to crack. It is best to have your emerald professionally oiled every few years.
Polishing and Cleaning service
We offer a complimentary free polishing and cleaning service for previous clients who have purchased both their engagement and wedding rings from us.
It is always nice to have your engagement ring looking like new on your wedding day. Your ring can be dropped off to us in the morning and collected the same day. Please contact us at least two weeks prior to your wedding day to arrange a convenient time. This service is only for previous clients who purchased their wedding rings from us.
We recommend having your rings professionally cleaned and polished every few years. We also check the gemstones in the ring setting to ensure they are securely in place. We offer the cleaning and re-polishing service at a minimal cost of £12 per ring after the first complimentary re-polish.
